Sampdoria vs Parma Predictions
- Sampdoria have lost twice already this week and they are under pressure here.
- On SPAL have a bigger difference between points won at home and away this term.
- Parma have won 1 of their last 15 away games.
- Samp have drawn 3 of their last 4 at home.
Pressure on Hosts
Sampdoria’s relegation fight sees them clash with Parma on Sunday, with Claudio Ranieri’s men in need of a win. The hosts are fresh from two losses to Cagliari in a matter of days, losing on the road in Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Now they need to turn things around at home, but could they slip up to Parma?
While neither of these sides have stellar returns on the road, there’s certainly optimism for Parma from their recent trips. Meanwhile, the pressure on the hosts could gift the visitors a result.
Home Comforts
It’s fair to say both of these sides have a preference for playing in front of their home support this season. Only SPAL (seven) have a higher difference between points won at home and away than Sampdoria and Parma this season (both six). While teams usually favour their home comforts, the gap between them doesn’t sound great for either side.
Sampdoria are coming into this clash as the favourites, with those numbers likely factoring into that decision. After all, the hosts have been improving here of late. Sampdoria are unbeaten in their last four league matches at the Ferraris (W1 D3) and could avoid the defeat in five such games in a row for the first time since February 2018. Their only defeats at home this term have come against two of the current top three. However, will Parma really disappoint on the road?
Battling Parma
While Parma’s away results aren’t great compared to their home form, they have been stepping it up in recent weeks. They’re currently three games without defeat on the road after three consecutive draws on the road. Parma have lost only once in four clashes with bottom-half sides, while they picked up a recent point at leaders Inter. The visitors have won just once on the road in their last 15 league trips, while they haven’t claimed an away success since September.
Meanwhile, Samp have drawn three of their last four at home, while they’ve lost only twice in their last seven league games. We expect them to get something out of this clash, but the visitors seem like they could battle for a result here. We see the pair cancelling each other out given their recent draws, so we are backing the pair to finish level, as they did when they clashed in May.
We’re going with a 1-1 draw here, given that the majority of Samp’s home games have seen under 2.5 goals scored. Three of the last four clashes between the two have seen both teams score, so we are going with a 1-1 draw as our correct score pick here.
