San Jose Earthquakes were unlucky not to make the playoffs last season. Their squad consists of some very talented players which were unfortunately destroyed by a plague of injuries last term. They never recovered from their injury problems and eventually finished four points adrift of 6th place Sporting Kansas City in 7th.

Colorado Rapids had a huge turnover of players in the last off season, but ultimately it didn’t pay dividends as they finished bottom of the Western Conference after picking up 37 points from their 34 matches. They have done the same in this off season too, letting the spine of the team leave and bringing in a host of new players. The most exciting of these is Gashi, who comes in from Basel after netting 22 times last season.

But once again, a high turnover of players is likely to take a long time to gel. In last season’s case that gelling never happened at all, and until Colorado Rapids find some sort of stability I don’t think they’ll be improving.

San Jose Earthquakes have that stability, and as long as they can stave off injuries they should be in line for a playoff position this season.
