San Jose Earthquakes vs DC United Predictions

San Jose Earthquakes missed out on the MLS playoffs last season after finishing four points adrift of a qualifying position in 7th in the MLS Western Conference, but this season they are showing improvements.

They won their opening two games against Colorado Rapids and MLS Cup winners Portland Timbers, with Chris Wondowlowski netting in both of those matches. They did lose 3-1 to LA Galaxy last time out, but despite this loss they will still be confident in their chances this season after Wondowlowski netted his 3rd goal in as many games.

San Jose Earthquakes had a decent end to last season after enduring some difficult spells earlier in the season, and they have looked ready to continue that resurgence this season. At home they are even more formidable, with four wins on the bounce there extending their unbeaten streak to eight matches.

DC United, with their low budget and astute management, impressed last season as they pushed the big spending sides right to the end. They eventually finished in 4th position in the Eastern Conference, but they were only nine points adrift of Supporters’ Shield champions New York Red Bulls.

This season has proved a little more slow burning so far. They have failed to win any of their opening four matches in the MLS, losing 4-1 to LA Galaxy and 3-0 to FC Dallas either side of draws against New England Revolution and Colorado Rapids.

This came after they were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League as well, so it’s really not been a good start to the season for DC United. Their main issue is scoring.  They have only netted three times in their six competitive games this season, and away from home they have only scored one goal in their last six.

San Jose Earthquakes aren’t the highest scoring team around either. They have only scored more than a single goal in one of their last 15 home matches in all competitions, which has resulted in 13 of these 15 games having two or fewer goals scored in total.

This makes odds of 19/20 for Under 2.5 Goals look incredibly good value, and I’m also going for a 1-0 win for San Jose Earthquakes at 6/1.
