Sevilla vs Lyon Predictions
Sevilla haven’t had the most promising of starts to their campaign this year. They opened the term with a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, and despite winning their La Liga opener 6-4 against Espanyol, they have been generally uninspiring since then.
They have drawn three and won two of their matches since that opening day thriller, with their only defeat coming on Saturday as Athletic Bilbao beat them 3-1. Despite seeing ten goals scored in their opening match, it has taken them another six matches to get ten goals overall.
Sevilla have played out two goalless draws during this period, but one of them was in their Champions League opener as they held Juventus to a 0-0 scoreline in Turin. It was a very drab match, but it can’t be considered anything less than a success from Sevilla’s point of view. The Spaniards will now be hoping to build on that result and look towards qualification from the group stages, something which hasn’t been doable in recent years. Their early Champions League exit has brought them tremendous success in the Europa League though.
Lyon are nowhere near their best at the moment either. They lost 1-0 to Lorient at the weekend as they once again failed to capitalise on PSG’s failures. The reigning French champions have been poor this season, but Lyon have failed to take advantage of this slow start. Lyon have finished as runners up to PSG in each of the last two seasons but currently find themselves down in 9th position after a few very poor results.
The defeat at Lorient made it four defeats, one draw, and four wins in their eight competitive matches this season. Their other losses have come against PSG, Dijon, and Bordeaux, with three of the losses coming away from the Parc OL.
This poor away form firmly puts Sevilla in the driving seat on Tuesday. The hosts, despite it being an overall disappointing start to the season, have won three of their four home games so far, with their only loss being against Barcelona in the Super Cup. Lyon have lost three, drawn one, and won one of their away matches so far this season, so odds of 8/11 for a Sevilla Win look good value for money, especially considering Lyon are without star striker Alexandre Lacazette again. I’m also going for a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2.
