Sevilla vs Real Madrid Predictions

These sides played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in the Copa del Rey on Thursday with Real Madrid fighting back to set a new Spanish record with 40 games unbeaten in domestic competitions. The personnel will be a little different here for both sides, particularly the visitors, but a similar kind of game looks likely.

Real Madrid will recall the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema to the starting line-up and that will only bolster their attacking threat. The Frenchman came off the bench to notch a last gasp leveller on Thursday to keep that incredible sequence going and after taking a while to get going this season, he seems to have really found his form. With 6 goals in his last 6 appearances, backing Benzema to score anytime at 10/11 looks a decent punt here.

Los Blancos have scored 3 goals per game on their travels this term in La Liga and that is better than their record at the Bernabeu. No side can better their tally of 45 goals in total and it’s the main reason they are topping the table but defensively they do still look a bit vulnerable at times. Even with Sergio Ramos back at the heart of things, Sevilla caused them plenty of problems on Thursday night and both teams have scored in 69% of Real Madrid’s league games this term. There have been over 2.5 goals in 75% of them too and it looks likely both of those things will be true again here.

It’s hard not to be impressed with Sevilla, who ended the last game-week ahead of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in 2nd place. Victory here, you’d have to say, would catapult them into the title race for real, as some of their performances on the road this season have been very impressive and they are always strong at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. No side can better their average of 2.63 points per game at home this season but although they’ve won 88% of their home matches, they’ve only kept two home clean sheets in the league.

Sevilla named a much stronger side than might have been expected on Thursday, given the tie looked almost over following their 3-0 defeat in the 1st Leg. However, a weakened Real Madrid attack still caused them problems and netted 3 goals which suggests they will have a tough time coping up against practically a full-strength Real Madrid side here, with the obvious exception of Gareth Bale.

Like Los Blancos, their games have invariably produced goals at both ends. That has been the case in 71% of their league games this season and 71% of them have also seen over 2.5 goals scored in total. Therefore, the stats certainly point towards this being a high-scoring game and given there were 35 shots producing 6 goals shared evenly between them on Thursday night, backing Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score at 8/11 looks like a good bet.
