Slovakia vs Latvia Predictions

Slovakia have been very good since the end of World Cup 2014 qualifying which ended in disappointment for them. They have won 15 of their 19 matches since then and cruised to Euro 2016 qualification alongside Spain, who they beat 2-1 in Bratislava. They won both their November friendlies too, scoring 3 goals in victories over Switzerland and Iceland, two other sides who will be at Euro 2016 so the signs are good that the Slovakians could be really competitive in France and they will certainly be expected to win this match against a Latvia side that has struggled of late.

The Baltic side have had a miserable couple of years. They didn’t win any of their Euro 2016 qualifiers and haven’t won any match since beating Armenia in a friendly in September 2014. It is over 4 years since they last won away from home when they won 1-0 in Georgia in a Euro 2012 qualifier.  On a more positive note they did pick up away draws against Iceland, Turkey and Czech Republic during Euro 2016 qualifying and all 3 sides made the finals but they were battered 6-0 away to the Netherlands who didn’t.

It’s hard to see Slovakia not winning this though. Their form over a prolonged period of time now shows they are a good side and results like their victories over Spain and Ukraine were no fluke. There will be an element of building towards the Euros but their recent friendly results have shown they do take these games seriously so consider backing Slovakia to win 3-1 at 12/1.
