Southend vs Ipswich Predictions
Southend’s humiliating 7-1 defeat at home to Doncaster Rovers will have given new manager Sol Campbell plenty to think about ahead of his first match in charge this weekend. Ipswich were knocked off the top spot after losing at home to Rotherham in midweek and have now lost their last two matches and will be looking for a response from their players on Saturday.
All of the stats suggest that we are likely to see both teams score and over 2.5 goals produced in Saturday’s match and we have backed Ipswich to ruin Campbell’s first game in charge by winning the game 3-1.
Both teams scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in three of the last five competitive and non-competitive matches between these two clubs and Ipswich have won two of their last four trips to Southend, but the teams haven’t met competitively since 2007 when the pair were both playing in the Championship.
The form of both clubs heading into Saturday’s match points towards an away win as we have predicted, as Southend have lost five of their last six matches and Ipswich have won four of theirs. Southend have lost their last four home games and have been struggling in front of their own fans, while Ipswich have won four of their last five away games and look very strong on the road.
The performances of both clubs over the last month or so provides even more reason to expect goals in this game, as over 2.5 goals were produced in three of Southend’s last four matches, all of which ended in defeat, while two of Ipswich’s last five matches produced over 2.5 goals and both ended in victory for the Tractor Boys. The hosts conceded three or more goals in three of their last four matches and Ipswich have scored nine goals in their last five matches, which is why we’ve gone with a 3-1 win for the visitors this weekend.
We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in Saturday’s clash and we have predicted a final scoreline of 3-1 in favour of the visitors. Ipswich have outplayed Southend in all departments this season and despite losing their last two matches, we’re confident that visitors will return to winning ways this weekend. Southend have a new manager now and he will be looking for a response from his players but Campbell faces arguably a tougher job keeping Southend up than he did keeping Macclesfield in League Two on the final day of last season.
