      Southend vs Oxford United Predictions

Southend haven’t won any of their last eight league games but did manage to secure a win in the EFL Trophy last time out, beating Wimbledon 3-1, while Oxford were also successful in that particular competition as they ran out 4-1 winners away at Crawley Town.

All of the stats suggest that we are likely to see both teams score on Saturday and we have predicted a 3-1 win for visiting Oxford United.

Four of the last five times that Southend have played host to Oxford both teams have scored and both teams have also scored in four of Southend’s and four of OPxford’s last six matches, so you can see why we’re backing both teams to score this weekend as well.

The form of the two clubs also adds weight to our prediction for an away win, as Southend have lost five of their last six matches while Oxford have won five of their last six. The visitors are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions and have only lost three times on the road this season, while Southend have lost eight of their nine home games in League One.

The performances of both teams provide further reasons to back a final scoreline of 3-1 in favour of the visitors, as Oxford have scored three or more goals in six of their last eleven league games and Southend have conceded three or more goals in seven of their last eleven games in League One.

Southend sit second from bottom in the table and new manager Sol Campbell is yet to end the clubs losing streak in the league but will be hopeful of doing so following his sides EFL Trophy victory over Wimbledon. However, Oxford sit one place outside the playoffs and have to win these types of games if they are to be considered genuine promotion challengers this season and we fully expect the visitors to do their duty this weekend.

We’re confident that both teams will score and we have predicted a final scoreline of 3-1 in favour of Oxford United. The visitors arrive as the clear form favourites and could move into the top six with a win. Southend have only picked up five points from their opening seventeen matches and have lost eight of their nine league games at home, so you can see why we’ve backed an away win this weekend.
