Southend vs Sheffield United Betting Tips & Predictions

Sheffield United and Southend may be identical in terms of their points accrued this season, but they have very different viewpoints on how successful their season has been.

Sheffield United achieved a playoff position last season, but currently find themselves down in 11th position in League One as we near the end of the season. Southend also achieved a playoff position last season, being promoted via the League Two playoffs. Unlike their opponents, they will be very happy with their 12th position in League One at the moment and the fact that they are 17 points above the relegation zone.

The hosts have started to tail off recently though, only winning one of their last six League One games and losing three times. At home they have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six outings.

This leaves them six points adrift of the playoff position that Bradford currently occupy, with Sheffield United sitting above them on goal difference with the same points tally to make up on the playoff spots.

The visitors haven’t been in the best of form recently either. Only two of their last six matches have resulted in a victory, and away from home they have lost three and drawn one of their last four matches.

Sheffield United generally try to keep a tight ship on the road, and as such 12 of their last 15 trips away have resulted in fewer than three goals being scored. Southend’s recent downturn in form has resulted in fewer goals being scored by them too, with each of their last three home matches seeing two or fewer goals. This makes odds of 3/4 for Under 2.5 Goals look good value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 1-0 win for Southend at 8/1.
