SPAL vs Frosinone Predictions
SPAL managed to end their losing streak in the most incredible way last weekend, as they shocked Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. They go from meeting Champions League hopefuls to relegation candidates this week, and the hosts are now favourites for the three points as they prepare for the visit of Frosinone. The visitors are looking set for a speedy return trip down to Serie B unless their fortunes change, will they be able to pull off a result away to the side who stepped up and surged away from danger last term?
The hosts have to be delighted with their victory over Roma, even if they had left out some key names. The Giallorossi were heavy favourites for that trip, and SPAL turned up to spoil the party. The hosts had been slipping down the division, but their shock win last time out keeps them in 13th place, level on points with AC Milan. Having spent much of last season struggling against the drop, the hosts will be delighted that they’ve got breathing room between themselves and the bottom three.
Frosinone would love that luxury, with the visitors the worst performing side in Serie A this term. They’re in 19th, aided by Chievo’s points deduction that has left them minus one point. Meanwhile, Frosinone have picked up two points from their first nine games back at this level, and they sit six points shy of safety. They look set to make a meek return to Serie B, so it’s hard to see them causing too many problems on the road here.
The hosts have been priced up as favourites, and they deserve to be. They’ve been cut to odds on with Frosinone still without a victory this season, and in terrible form on their travels. The away side have lost all four of their away games, while they’ve lost six of their last seven overall. They’ve scored just 0.67 goals per game, hitting only two in their four trips. With all that considered, the hosts seem good value for the win.
However, SPAL have a great defence, mixed with one of the least potent forward lines in Serie A. So far this season, they’ve claimed four wins in nine matches. All of those wins have been to nil, and each of them have seen no more than two goals. Overall SPAL have seen under 2.5 goals in 67% of their league games, and we can see a repeat here. Frosinone offer little going forward, while SPAL aren’t likely to rack up the goals, so a home win and under 2.5 looks like brilliant value in our eyes.
