      Stevenage vs Bury Predictions

Stevenage aren’t in the greatest form at present; they’re without a win in four, which means they’ve dropped to four points outside of the play-off places. That said, they got a decent result on the road when drawing against Oldham last time out, so they may not be feeling too downbeat. Now back in front of a home crowd, Dino Maamria’s men will be hoping to regain the winning thread.

It certainly wasn’t a vintage display, but Stevenage battled hard and were good value for a point against a decent Oldham side last time out. Going forward, they didn’t do too much of note, as they created just 0.82 expected goals for, though they gave little away at the other end, conceding just 0.83. A repeat of that defensive showing would surely see them do well on Saturday, though they may need to offer more going forward to really cause the visitors problems.

Fortunately, Stevenage have offered a decent threat on their own patch this season. They’ve scored in all but one of their last six at Broadhall Way, while they’re averaging a respectable 1.4 expected goals for. However, their defending has been a problem, which doesn’t exactly bode well ahead of a match against one of League Two’s best attacks. Saturday’s hosts come into this match having conceded twice against Northampton in their last home game, while they’ve shipped an average of 1.66 expected goals. Such a number suggests that teams have found it reasonably easy to create chances against Boro this season.

While Stevenage have given quite a bit away on home soil, Bury come into this match having created plenty in their recent away matches. Saturday’s visitors have scored in each of their last five on the road, while they’ve recently posted expected-goals for numbers of 1.6 and 1.66. That said, Ryan Lowe’s men haven’t been squeaky clean at the back, as they’ve conceded in three of their last four travelling matches. They’ve also struggled to contain top-half teams on the road during the current campaign, conceding away against the likes of MK Dons, Lincoln, Swindon, Colchester, Mansfield and Forest Green. Most of those team all created plenty of chances against Lowe’s men, so Stevenage are certainly not without a chance on Saturday afternoon, despite what the current Win/Draw/Win prices may suggest.

On paper, Bury are the likely winners of this fixture, though they’ve been far from infallible on their travels this season and thus too short in the betting. One bet that does catch the eye is ‘Over 2.5 Goals’. With Stevenage averaging 1.4 expected goals for at home and the Shakers averaging 1.5 on their travels, coupled with the fact that there’s been an average of 3.06 at Broadhall Way this season, it’s easy to feel that current price available on ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ is a tad too big. Punters are advised to take advantage.
