Stevenage vs Oldham Predictions
- Stevenage are the lowest home scorers in League 2 this season with just nine goals.
- Only two teams have conceded more away goals than Oldham in League 2 this term.
- Both Oldham and Stevenage rank inside the bottom six in League 2 when it comes to shots conceded.
Home not where the heart is
Any hopes of Stevenage enjoying a promising campaign, much as they did last season, are now long gone and have been for some time. Tuesday’s hosts are in a desperate position. They’re bottom of the table, are six points from safety and haven’t won any of their last ten matches. They have at least drawn seven of those ten, which indicates that they’re getting tougher to beat, though they desperately need to regain the winning thread if they’re to avoid being caught too far behind.
It’s now been a month since Graham Westley was brought in, Stevenage’s third manager of the season, but not a great deal has changed, as they’re still searching for a first win since October. Even at home, things haven’t exactly gone swimmingly. Under Westley, Stevenage have lost two and drawn two at Broadhall Way, scoring just one goal in the process. They have at least kept things tight in general, conceding just one in their last three.
Oldham out of form
Stevenage aren’t the only ones who’re struggling. Oldham come into this match winless in four, three of which they’ve lost. They too are struggling to score goals, notching just twice during that time.
On the road, Latics, who’re down in a lowly 20th position but are not in immediate danger of dropping into the relegation zone, have turned in a few decent performances of late, but their defensive antics haven’t been great, as they’ve shipped seven in their last four. In fact, defending has been their problem all season when playing away from home. They’ve conceded a total of 23 goals, which given their total of only 11 scored, is simply not good enough. Only two League 2 teams have conceded more away goals than Oldham.
Opportunity for both
It’s highly likely that both teams will view this game as an opportunity to do better. Neither team has thrived this season, so it’s not overly easy to fancy either to come out on top, though at the prices, the hosts do appeal. Stevenage have found wins very hard to come by, but they’ve looked very solid at home in recent games, which is not something that can be said for Oldham. This defensive solidity could make all the difference on Tuesday evening. The hosts have struggled for goals, but if they can continue to keep things tight, then it would no surprise if they snuck ahead against a Oldham side that concedes plenty of goals, especially on the road.
