Sutton United vs AFC Fylde Predictions

  • Sutton have won just two of their six home matches at home against the current bottom eight.
  • Sutton have kept just one clean sheet in six home games against those who sit in the bottom eight at present.
  • Fylde have scored in 100% of their away matches since Jim Bentley became manager five months ago.
  • Both teams have scored in eight of Fylde’s nine away matches under the current manager.

Sutton strong at home

They may occupy a less than fashionable league position, but Sutton are no mugs, especially at home, where they’ve lost none of their last eight, five of which they’ve won. It took them a while to become strong in front of their owns fans, but over the last few months, the U’s have turned Gander Green Lane into a fortress. Even the likes of Harrogate, Yeovil and Barrow, all of whom are in the top seven, have failed to win in Surrey.

Despite recently doing well against some of the top sides, Sutton don’t posses a flattering record against the lesser teams. They’ve won two, drawn one and lost three against those that currently reside in the bottom eight, keeping just one clean sheet in the process. Such a record is slightly worrying ahead of Tuesday’s game.

Visitors scrapping

Their position is a poor one, but AFC Fylde aren’t giving up, they’re certainly not going down without a fight. Thanks to avoiding defeat in each of their last three, two of which they’ve won, Tuesday’s visitors have taken themselves to within just four points of safety. If their recent run of form can act as a springboard for further positive results, then Jim Bentley’s men will be out of the drop-zone in no time.

Since Bentley took the reins, Fylde have done a reasonable job away from home, losing only three out of nine. Moreover, they’ve lost only one of their last five travelling matches. However, under the current management, Fylde have lost two out of two on the road against those currently in the middle third of the table, while they’ve lost three and drawn five away against such teams this season in general.

Goals for both on the cards

In the betting, ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’ stands out. Sutton have scored plenty of goals against the bottom half at home, scoring two or more in four out of six, but they’ve failed to keep such teams at bay, conceding in five out of six. Fylde have made a habit of scoring away under Bentley, scoring in eight out of nine, while they’ve also scored in 100% of their away games against the middle third this term. 67% of Fylde’s away matches have contained three or more goals, while three or more have been scored in five of Sutton’s six home games against the current bottom eight.

A 2-2 ‘Correct Score’ appeals at the prices. Fylde are starting to make a habit of getting results away against teams above them, scoring twice in two or their last three on the road, one of which ended 2-2. Sutton have drawn three of their last four at home and have conceded twice in three of their last six.
