Swansea vs Chelsea Predictions
Swansea’s poor performance in the Premier League last season demanded change. They got it part way through the season when Garry Monk was sacked as manager with Swansea in danger of getting relegated. Francesco Guidolin came into the club and turned things around, eventually finishing 12th in the table and ten points above the drop zone.
However, their troubles resurfaced in the summer. They let all of their first team strikers leave as Bafetimbi Gomis, Eder, and Alberto Paloschi left. After that captain and talisman Ashley Williams left, soon to be followed by one of their few attacking options Andre Ayew. It took a long while for them to start shopping for a replacement, but eventually they brought in towering striker Fernando Llorente and fellow Spaniard Borja Baston for a club record fee. Alfie Mawson has come in to replace Williams, and Leroy Fer and Mike van der Hoorn have been added to the midfield.
It remains to be seen whether these transfers will pay off, as they have struggled up front ever since Wilfried Bony left. So far it hasn’t worked out, with a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley kicking the season off only to be followed by a 2-0 loss at home to Hull and a 2-1 loss to Leicester. However, Baston has been injured for these games, but he’s expected to make his debut on Sunday.
It will be extremely difficult to get anything out of Chelsea though. Antonio Conte’s men have started the season fantastically with 2-1 wins against West Ham and Watford in the Premier League, followed by a 3-2 victory against Bristol Rovers in the League Cup and a 3-0 dismantling of Burnley back in the league.
Diego Costa and Eden Hazard have been back on form for Chelsea in these opening stages, and new signing Michy Batshuayi has proved his worth with an equaliser against Watford, an assist against West Ham, and two goals against Bristol Rovers. They also repurchased David Luiz for £30 million on transfer deadline day and brought in Fiorentina left back Marcos Alonso.
I fully expect Chelsea to continue their perfect start to the season on Sunday. They have looked tactical brilliantly this campaign and their star players are all performing wonderfully, so odds of 4/6 for a Chelsea win on Sunday look very good value for money. I’m going for a 2-0 correct score prediction at 15/2 as well.
