      Swindon vs Crawley Town Predictions

It’s been a good few weeks for Swindon, who’re now unbeaten in three league matches. After drawing a home against the league leaders, the Robins faced a trip to Tranmere, which is far from the easiest place to go at this level. Despite seemingly being up against it, Richie Wellens’ men returned with all three points and will now be feeling confident.

Swindon’s performances have been very likable, there’s no two ways about. Wellens’ men are playing attacking football and are simply reaping the rewards as they outplay teams from start to finish. When they lost away at Exeter on New Year’s Day, things weren’t going too well, but since then, the Robins have delivered three commanding performances and if they can continue in the same vein, then reaching the play-offs certainly won’t be beyond them.

Some credit must go to the manager, who had a similar effect when taking over at Oldham last season. Wellens’ is known for adopting a pro-active, attacking approach and such an approach seems to be paying dividends at County Ground right now.

In their last home match, Swindon did fail to come out on top, but they held the league leaders to a draw, while their performance was an excellent one. On that occasion, despite conceding two goals, they restricted Lincoln to few opportunities, which is not easy to do, while they created plenty going forward. The fact that they recorded 2.35 expected goals for and gave away just 0.37 tells us that the Robins were unfortunate not to get the better of the current league leaders when last in action at this venue.

Will Swindon looked somewhat menacing in the final third last time out, Crawley struggled to impose themselves, while they were also poor offensively in their penultimate fixture. What’s more, in general, Crawley have struggled to get going on the road for some time. They’ve found the net in just two of their last six away matches, while they’ve not exactly been unlucky during that time. Their last five expected-goals for figures away from home read: 0.54, 3.34, 0.3, 1.05 and 0.59. Barring an excellent effort in what was an extraordinarily open game away at Stevenage, the Reds have struggled to make their presence felt in the final third, which doesn’t bode well ahead of a match against Swindon side that has looked very strong at both ends in recent weeks.

In addition, Crawley have looked weak at the back, especially on the road. They concede 1.73 expected goals against Mansfield recently, while they shipped 2.17 away at Stevenage prior to that. They’re also conceding an average of 1.64 goals on the road during the current campaign.

With the way things have gone for both teams over the last few weeks, this looks to be excellent opportunity for Swindon to continue making life tough for their opponents. If we consider the fact that the hosts have looked very good offensively, as they’ve clocked over 2.0 expected goals for in each of their last three, ‘Swindon to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ looks a tad overpriced in the early betting. Against a side that continues to come up short defensively, the hosts can deliver another commanding attacking performance.
