Sydney FC vs Perth Glory Predictions
Sydney FC finished last season as the second best team in both the Hyundai A-League Premiership and the Championship after losing out to Melbourne Victory in both. That may have seemed like a disappointment, but it’s much better than they have followed up with this season.
They come into the final league game of the season in 7th position, nine points adrift of the plyaoff zone above them and with no hope of any domestic silverware. They are top of their Asian Champions League group though, so there is still hope for them.
In fact, the ACL is the only place they have been able to find any success recently. In the A-League they haven’t won since the middle of January, with four draws and seven defeats coming their way in their last 11 domestic fixtures.
Perth Glory were demoted to 7th position last season after breaching salary caps, and they started this season looking like this disappointment had taken it’s toll. However, they managed to turn it around and they come into this match having won five on the bounce and with ten wins and one defeat in their last 11 A-League matches.
This put them in with a shout of reaching the top of the table, but it turned out to be marginally too late for Perth Glory. They come into the last game of the regular season in 5th position, six points adrift of leaders Adelaide United. A win on Sunday would see them finish at least in 4th though, and could see them break into the top three.
Sydney FC have lost four of their last five home matches in the A-League and drawn the remaining one, whilst Perth Glory have won five and lost one of their last six away days. This, in my book, makes Perth Glory overwhelming favourites on Sunday. Odds of 6/5 for a Perth Glory win look excellent value for money too, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 8/1.
