Tip Reasoning

Umraniyespor have ambitions of promotion to the Super Lig this season and over the next week they face Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup, a team they could potentially end up replacing in the top flight next season. Fenerbahce remain in the relegation zone at the halfway point of what has been a disastrous campaign for the Turkish giants. These two teams will meet twice over the space of a week to determine which one will progress through to the next round of the Turkish Cup, and despite their poor performances so far, Fenerbahce are the bookmakers favourites.

Umraniyespor’s last game before the winter break saw them pick up all three points at home against Afjet Afyonspor. Two goals in the first half from Madinda and Çiçek saw the hosts leading 2-0 at the break, and, despite Candoğan pulling a goal back for the visitors in the sixty-eighth minute, Umraniyespor held on to secure all three points. Umraniyespor had the luck on their side during the ninety minutes, with their guests missing a penalty in the second half shortly before their two goal lead was reduced to one goal. Afjet Afyonspor created more scoring opportunities and had more corners than their hosts, but a better first half performance from Umraniyespor proved enough to win the game.

Before the winter break Fenerbahce drew 0-0 away at Antalyaspor to make it three games undefeated in league and cup, sparking hope that they will put a good run of form together in the new year and distance themselves from any relegation battle. However, despite that draw Fenerbahce remain second from bottom, a point from safety, and will be without the services of Neustädter in their next league game after the defender was sent-off during the goalless draw against Antalyaspor.

In the last round of the Turkish Cup Umraniyespor ran out 5-4 aggregate winners against 1461 Trabzon. Umraniyespor were 4-1 up after a fantastic 1st leg performance at home, but were made to sweat in the reverse fixture. 1461 Trabzon won 3-1 at home and if they hadn’t conceded that late first half Leandrinho penalty probably would have been the aggregate winners. Fenerbahce cruised to a 6-2 aggregate against another of the second tier teams Giresunspor, but after drawing the 1st leg at home needed to produce a big performance at the Giresun Atatürk Stadyumu.

Brazilian Leandrinho top scores for Umraniyespor in the league this season with five goals, and the forward has also scored twice in the Turkish Cup. With four league goals to his name Andre Ayew leads the way in front of goal for the visitors, but teammate Ekici top scores in the Cup with two goals to his name. The hosts head into the 1st leg as the form favourites with three wins, one draw, and two defeats from their last six matches and will be confident they can add to Fenerbahce’s miserable season by knocking the Turkish giants out of the cup.

We’re confident that Fenerbahce will win on Thursday and that both teams will score in the process, with the final score ending 2-1. Both teams have scored in all of Umraniyespor’s last five matches, as well as in two of Fenerbahce’s last three matches. The visitors are unbeaten in their last three matches and play in the top division in Turkey, while Umraniyespor play in the second tier and have never faced top teams on a regular basis.
