USA vs Venezuela Predictions

USA will be looking to recover from a disappointing shock defeat to Jamaica on Thursday in their final warm-up game against Venezuela before the start of the Gold Cup next week. The South Americans arrive having suffered a 3-1 defeat against a Mexico side that was missing key players up front and really need a positive result before they start their Copa America campaign against Peru next weekend.

USA had more of the overall possession, but Jamaica created more goal scoring opportunities during the ninety minutes, one of which was taken in the second half by Nicholson. The hosts made six changes during the second forty-five which clearly had an effect on the flow of the match, but never really looked like winning this game at any point. An eighteenth minute effort from Murillo handed Venezuela the lead in Georgia against Mexico, but the teams went in level at the break thanks to an equaliser from Alvarado. Second half goals from Pizarro and captain Guardado saw Mexico wrap up a deserved 3-1 victory and left question marks over Venezuela’s ability to compete in the upcoming Copa America.

The last meetings between these two nations and their form and performances heading into Sunday’s friendly, suggests that both teams will score and that the most likely result is going to be a draw. Both teams scored the last time these two countries met back in 2017. Venezuela ended their three game losing streak against the USA when the pair drew their last meeting 1-1. USA have only failed to score in two of their last six matches, while both teams have scored in all of Venezuela’s last six matches. The visitors have drawn three of their last six internationals matches and, after USA lost to Jamaica, we believe a draw is the most likely result on Sunday.

Jozy Altidore provides the hosts main goal threat this weekend, having scored 41 times in 110 caps for his country, while Salomón Rondón leads the way for Venezuela with 22 goals in 72 international matches. We’re confident that both teams will score on Sunday, and have predicted a final scoreline of 1-1. Neither team is in great form and both have been scoring and conceding goals on a regular basis, but while the visitors have the stronger of the two squads they have never beaten USA before in four attempts.
