Valencia vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Valencia’s season has gone from bad to worse since Gary Neville took charge. He has overseen their exit from 3 cup competitions and demise in the league and it is hard to see the Englishman being at the club next season. Neville and his players have 9 league games to try and salvage some pride and if they are to have even the slimmest of chances of qualifying for Europe they have to win this game against Celta Vigo who are in 7th place, the final Europa League slot.

Celta currently have an 11 point advantage on Valencia though and Los Che have lost 3 of their last 4 league games including two 3 goal home defeats against Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid and a 1-0 defeat against city rivals Levante last weekend. They were better on Thursday when they led Athletic 2-0 on the night in the Europe League but an Aritrz Aduriz goal late on sent the Basques through on away goals.

Celta are in decent form having won 3 of their last 5 in the league and should be the fresher of the two sides here. However they are weak defensively at times and were hammered 7-1 by Real Madrid in their last away game and have also conceded 6 at Barcelona and 4 at Sevilla since the start of February. Valencia have played every single team in La Liga since they last kept a league clean sheet when they won their home game with Levante way back in October.

Therefore it would be safe to assume that we should see some goals in this one and backing over 2.5 goals at 17/20 certainly looks good value. There have been over 2.5 goals in 6 of Valencia’s last 7 home league games.
