Valencia vs FK Krasnodar Predictions

Valencia will be aiming to finish fourth in La Liga and claim a place in next season’s Champions League, but while they remain in the Europa League they will believe they can win it and qualify for Europe’s premier competition that way. The confidence of Krasnodar is bound to be high after the Russians upset the odds to progress through to the last sixteen of the Europa League by knocking out Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Valencia recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Athletic Club over the weekend, despite the two teams heading in at the break level. Rodrigo took just four second half minutes to put Valencia 1-0 up and although the second goal from Gameiro didn’t arrive until the eighty-ninth minute there only ever looked like being one winner. Krasnodar’s title race took a setback on Sunday when they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Spartak Moscow. The hosts took the lead in the fourteenth minute, but Krasnodar hit back shortly before the half hour mark through Pereyra. The visitors looked the more likely to score a winning goal, but in stoppage time Krasnodar had defender Martynovich sent-off and had to settle for a point.

The performances of both teams of late and in Europe this season points towards a tight and tense 1st leg in Spain, with a high chance of under 2.5 goals being scored. Valencia are unbeaten in their last six matches with four wins and two draws, and head into the game as the clear form favourites. Each of the hosts last six matches have produced under 2.5 goals and Valencia have kept five clean sheets during that period. Krasnodar haven’t won any of their last six competitive matches, yet still managed to beat Leverkusen on away goals in the last round. Five of the visitors last six matches have produced under 2.5 goals and on three of those occasions the Russians have failed to score. All of the above points towards a narrow 1st leg victory for the hosts, but Krasnodar are unlikely to make things easy for them.

Mina and Solar top score for Valencia in Europe this season with two goals apiece, while Ari and Suleymanov have both netted two goals each for Krasnodar in the Europa League. We’re confident that under 2.5 goals will be scored in Thursday’s 1st leg, and have backed Valencia to claim a narrow 1-0 win. Both teams have been involved in low scoring games of late and the hosts have looked strong in defence with four clean sheets from their last six attempts. The Russians are without a win in their last six matches and we can’t see that changing on Thursday.
