Vancouver Whitecaps vs Seattle Sounders Predictions

Two teams having polar opposite starts to the 2019 MLS season go head to head in Canada on Sunday, as Vancouver Whitecaps look to put an end to their losing streak at home to a Seattle Sounders side that have won their opening three matches. Vancouver Whitecaps were involved in a five-goal thriller away at Houston Dynamo last time out, while six-goals were scored when Seattle Sounders made the trip to Chicago.

Vancouver Whitecaps twice came from behind away at Houston Dynamo, first through a thirty-fifth minute Montero penalty and then early in the second half when new signing Bangoura made it 2-2. However, Houston went in front for a third time in the seventy-third minute and Vancouver couldn’t carve out a third equaliser, and lost the game 3-2. Seattle Sounders almost blew a three goals lead away at Chicago Fire, after Rodriguez, Morris, and Lodeiro had put the visitors three goals up by the forty-ninth minute. Chicago pulled two goals back and threatened to equalise, but a strike from Ruidiaz two minutes from time wrapped up the points for Seattle as the scoreline ended 4-2.

Not only the form of these two clubs this season leads us to believe that Seattle Sounders are best placed to earn three points this weekend, there’s also their recent head to head record that adds weight to our prediction. Seattle Sounders are unbeaten in their last six matches against Vancouver Whitecaps, and have won four of those six meetings between the two clubs. Vancouver Whitecaps are without a win in their last six matches and have lost their opening three MLS games, while Seattle Sounders have won their first three MLS games of the season. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Seattle Sounders last six matches and during that period the visitors have only kept one clean sheet, so we’re expecting both teams to score and at least three goals to be scored when Seattle Sounders beat Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday.

Bangoura, Godo, Henry, and Montero all have one goal each in the league for Vancouver Whitecaps this season, while Morris and Ruidíaz have both netted three times each for free scoring Seattle Sounders. We’re confident that Seattle Sounders will win on Sunday, and have predicted a final score of 2-1 to the visitors. Seattle have a great recent head to head record against their hosts, and the two teams are in completely opposite runs of form at the start of the new season with one winning all their games and the other losing all of theirs.
