Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich Predictions
VfB Stuttgart have won only one of their last seven league games (W1 D3 L3) and are currently three games without a win. After last weekend’s 2-2 draw against struggling Darmstadt 98, they find themselves twelfth place in the Bundesliga and 6 points clear of the relegation zone. With some tough fixtures ahead before the season end, Stuttgart aren’t quite out of the woods yet regarding the relegation fight, but they’ll most certainly be banking on securing their position with points from matches other than this one against the in-form league leaders.
After a “mini-crisis” in early March, where Bayern “only” took only 1 point from two matches against Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund, they have won their last three consecutive Bundesliga matches and are unbeaten in six across all competitions (W5 D1). Interestingly, Bayern Munich have won all 8 of their Bundesliga matches following a mid-week Champions League fixture, so recovery and fitness between games clearly isn’t a problem in Pep Guardiola’s ranks. Bayern Munich have, however, not been their-“goal-scoring”-selves in recent weeks. Each of their last three wins were 1-0’s and they have (again) “only” scored 24 goals in their last 14 games (an average of 1.7 goals per game) as opposed to the 42 goals they scored in the first 14 games of the season (an average of 3 goals per game).
Bayern Munich have managed eleven wins in a row against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga (fourteen straight wins including the DFB cup) and if they manage another on Saturday they will equal a club league record of twelve-in-a-row (alongside Freiburg and Nuremburg). Bayern Munich have kept 4 consecutive clean sheets across all competitions AND in their latest four matches against Stuttgart. Stuttgart are definitely playing an aggressive style, and have actually scored 3 more goals than Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga so far in 2016, but they have also failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven matches, and this has often been their downfall. Bayern Munich will take advantage of this and given that the league leaders are in every way the better side, on paper and in form, this match can only go one way. Combining the analysis above with the statistics below, expect Bayern Munich to win this match to nil with a final result of 2-0 to Bayern Munich at 8/1 being a top value outcome.
