Vorskla vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions
Sporting Lisbon are out to continue their challenge to Arsenal in the Europa League, as the Portuguese side head to Ukraine this week. The visitors are preparing for a decisive double header against the Gunners, but first they’ll be hoping to match the 4-2 win Arsenal claimed against Vorskla two weeks’ ago. Meanwhile, the visitors are out to build on their victory over Qarabag, which has put them in the driving seat as they chase a place in the next round of the Europa League. Can Sporting make it two wins from two this week?
The hosts had a tough encounter to kick off, heading over the Emirates to clash with Unai Emery’s side. It didn’t help that they were meeting a manager who has won this competition three times. Emery was clearly taking it seriously, as seen over the course of that victory. Now Vorskla have the chance to bounce back, but will they be able to win their opening home game in the group?
Sporting warmed up for this one by claiming a 2-0 win over Maritimo in the Primeira Liga at the weekend, and they remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot. However, they’re currently fourth in a four horse race, so this competition may be gaining in importance for them. Last season there was a real push by the Lions to go all the way and lift the trophy to secure a return to Europe’s top competition, but they ultimately came up short when they met Atletico Madrid.
Sporting should still have what it takes to come through this group, and they will be out to follow up on four wins from their last five matches. Their run to the last eight of this competition must have given them hope of a strong run this season, and it’s hard to see the Lions looking down their nose at the Europa League, given their uneasy relationship with their fans of late.
However, the visitors lost key players at the back over the summer, and that’s left them exposed. They’ve conceded in their three away trips in the league so far this season, while they were vulnerable in Europe last season. The Lions conceded in every away game in the Europa League, only failing to score at eventual winners Atletico. Meanwhile, Vorskla showed their attacking talent with two strikes against Arsenal, and their last six home games in this competition have seen both teams score, so we’re backing BTTS here.
