Walsall vs Fleetwood Town Predictions
It’s been a strange old season for Walsall. They started the season with hopes of claiming promotion and under Dean Smith it looked to be a real possibility. Just before Christmas, however, Smith left for Brentford. Sean O’Driscoll then stepped in to fill the void, but he managed only six wins during his 16 games in charge before he was relieved of his duties. Club Physio Jon Whitney was then placed in temporary charge until the end of the season and the former gravedigger has managed to put the Saddlers back on track with six wins in 10 matches. Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town guaranteed Whitney a playoff place, but he will have his sights set on automatic promotion. Walsall know that as win over Fleetwood will keep them in the automatic promotion hunt.
Fleetwood Town have rose through the leagues in recent years with this, the third incarnation of the club, only formed in 1997. Backed by millionaire Andrew Pilley, Fleetwood gained promotion to the Football League in 2012, although the goals of Jamie Vardy may also of had a part to play. This season has been a difficult one for The Cod Army, Steven Pressley’s men are in a precarious position although they know that their fate still lies in their own hands.
As the season draws to a close many teams are accused of coasting for the remaining fixtures, but this is one fixture that is sure not to be the case. The Sky cameras will witness two sides with everything to play for. Fleetwood’s away record is extremely poor and they face a side that is very strong at home. With Fleetwood also struggling to find the net it seems likely that we will see a low scoring game. Walsall to win and under 2.5 goals in 29/10 with Betfair.
