West Ham United vs Macclesfield Predictions

The Premier League table is starting to take shape and unfortunately for fans of West Ham United, it does not make for some pleasant viewing. However, this Wednesday evening they have the welcome distraction of the Carabao Cup, and with a Macclesfield side playing in the competition for the first time in seven years, it promises to be a thrilling encounter at the London Stadium.

With the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini at the start of the season, hopes were high for a successful campaign by West Ham this time around. A busy transfer window saw the squad shaken up, however, it did not result in the sort of results on the pitch most had expected. Although the start has been slow, improvements have been made in recent outings and if the Hammers can add goals to their recent turnaround in fortunes at the back, then they might yet achieve the sort of season many had predicted.

Their opponents this Wednesday is a side who also had plenty of reasons to be hopeful at the start of the campaign as they won their place back in the Football League following a seven year absence. However, Macclesfield’s return to League Two has not quite gone to plan and although they have had some success in the cup, they have lost seven of their nine league matches.

As well as the gap in the divisions between these two sides, there is also the fact the visitors have had a pretty disastrous start to the season. The bookies clearly have the hosts as the favourites, which means we have to get a little creative if we are to find the value in this one. Fortunately, we think that the gap between these two sides is so wide it allows us to back the hosts with a (-1) handicap.
