Whitecaps vs New York Red Bulls Predictions
Whitecaps are having a pretty poor season considering their impressive 2nd place finish in the MLS Western Conference last season. They find themselves all the way down in 8th position at the moment and have managed just 31 points from their 27 games so far.
They are four points outside the crucial MLS playoff zone and the the three teams around them all have a game in hand on them. They are only six points above bottom placed Houston Dynamo as well.
This is largely thanks to a very poor run of form throughout the summer. They have only won two of their last ten matches in all competitions, and in the MLS things are even worse. Whitecaps goalless draw with LA Galaxy last time out made it seven matches without a win for them, four of which have ended in defeat for the Vancouver based team.
New York Red Bulls began their MLS Supporters Shield defence in torrid fashion as they slumped to six defeats in their opening seven games. They finally got their recovery on track with a 3-2 win over Orlando City in gameweek eight, and barring one mini slump in form they haven’t looked back since.
The visitors come into this game having not lost any of their last 12 games in all competitions, with nine of them being in the MLS. They have only won four of these nine MLS matches though, and it’s for this reason that they aren’t sitting at the top of the table.
New York Red Bulls currently occupy 3rd position in the MLS Eastern Conference with three points between them and top spot holders Toronto FC. Hudson River rivals New York City are also above them in 2nd position.
Away from home they have drawn each of their last four league matches 2-2, and they have actually only won once on the road all season. Whitecaps have played out 2-2 draws in two of their last four at home as well and have seen draws in three of their last six home games. Three of the six meetings between these sides have ended all square as well, so I think odds of 12/5 for a draw on Saturday are excellent value for money. I’m going for another 2-2 correct score prediction at 11/1 as well.
