Wigan vs Wolves Predictions
Wigan were impressive as they raced to the League One title last year, losing just 7 league matches. However, they’ve already lost 6 times on their return to the Championship and are currently propping up the division heading into this game. They do so having taken just 1 point from their last 6 league outings and that 3-0 win at home to Blackburn remains their only victory so far this term. They’ve scored just once in their other 3 home games and a lack of goals is becoming a bit of a worry for a side that scored freely last season. Will Grigg has 4 to his name but the rest of the Wigan squad have mustered just 2 between them so far this season.
That should offer Wolves plenty of encouragement here. The Black Country side are still adapting to life under Walter Zenga and have been a bit inconsistent so far. Their 4-0 home defeat against Barnsley a fortnight ago was an alarming result but Zenga couldn’t have wished for a better response. They won 2-0 at title favourites Newcastle just 4 days later and were fairly comfortable 3-1 winners at home to Brentford on Saturday, with new signing Joao Teixeira bagging his first goals for the club.
With just 72 hours between the games, Zenga may continue his rotation policy here but Wolves have strength in depth to their squad now, following a flurry of late transfer activity. They can afford to make changes without necessarily weakening their side with Ivan Cavaleiro, another of the Portuguese contingent who came off the bench to score at the weekend, likely to start. Wigan simply don’t have that luxury, with numerous players out injured and a smaller squad.
Wolves come into the game with real confidence and there is a real danger Wigan’s losing streak could be extended here. Therefore, backing Wolves 0.0 Asian Handicap at 1.900 looks to offer value.
