Wrexham suffered their first league defeat in ten matches on Saturday as Grimsby held them off to win 1-0 at home, a result which makes it five wins, four draws, and one defeat in their last ten outings in the Conference National.

This dealt a blow to their chances of achieving a playoff position in the table this season, and they are now six points adrift of 5th placed Braintree, with a number of the teams above them having a game in hand over Wrexham.

Cheltenham looked in danger of running away with the Conference National lead a month or so ago, but a run of just two wins in six matches has allowed Forest Green to close the gap. Cheltenham come into this match with just a three point lead over the 2nd placed Forest Green. They are 14 points ahead of Grimsby, but the 3rd placed side have three games in hand on the teams above them.

The top spot in the Conference National is a big deal too, as it’s the only position that guarantees promotion, so Cheltenham will be desperate to get back to form and start building their lead up again.

Wrexham are unbeaten on home turf in six matches in the Conference, with five of those games ending in a win. Cheltenham, on the other hand, have lost two and drawn one of their last three matches on the road, so I think the hosts have an excellent chance of getting one over on the league leaders on Monday.

Considering they are in form and are the home side I think odds of 8/13 for a Wrexham Win or Draw Double Chance are excellent value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 1-0 correct score prediction at 17/2.
