Aberdeen vs Celtic Predictions

Aberdeen’s 2-0 win over Greenock Morton in October saw them progress to their first Scottish League Cup Final in three season, but now they face the dominant Celtic as they look to add the trophy to their cabinet for the 7th time. The last time was their 2013/14 penalty victory over Inverness CT, but prior to that their last appearance was a defeat to Celtic in 2000.

Aberdeen do come into this game in decent form though. They have won eight of their last ten matches in all competitions, losing twice. One of these defeats was predictably against Celtic though – Which happened to be their second defeat of the season against them.

Adam Rooney found the back of the net in last weekend’s 3-1 win at Inverness CT to take his tally to six for the season in all competitions, with two of those coming in the League Cup as well. On the Aberdeen side of things he’s the best option for our anytime goalscorer predictions at 11/5, but considering Celtic’s recent defensive record I’d be tempted to give this one a swerve.

Celtic have a much more likely goalscorer in their ranks though. Breakout star Moussa Dembele has scored an excellent 14 goals in all competitions this season, including four in the League Cup. He’s almost certain to start up front in this one, as he has throughout the competition, so backing him to find the net at 21/20 is a good choice.

Celtic faced a tough home clash against Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek, and a Lionel Messi double saw the Scottish Champions crash out of Europe with a game remaining. It was expected. given their incredibly tough group, but it will undoubtedly hurt them.

This ended a six match unbeaten streak in all competitions, but domestically they are still unbeaten this season and have won 14 of their 15 games, including each of their last nine.

Brendan Rodgers has brought the best out in this Celtic team. They started the season off in blistering attacking fashion but have recently returned to defensive solid ways. Domestically they have kept seven clean sheets on the bounce and they haven’t conceded in any of their three League Cup matches.

Aberdeen have only seen both teams find the net in three of their last nine matches as well, so I think backing Both Teams Not to Score at 19/20 is a very good option. I’m also going for a 2-0 win for Celtic at 13/2 for my correct score predictions.
