Aberdeen vs Hearts Predictions

Aberdeen continued their stroll towards 2nd place last Saturday with a 1-0 win over Motherwell taking them eight points clear of Rangers below them in 3rd. This followed on from an identical 1-0 win over Partick Thistle as they continue their run of excellent form.

Celtic are the only team with a better form record than them in recent months. Aberdeen have won 12 of their last 14 matches in all competitions, and both of their defeats during this period have come away from home. At the Pittodrie Stadium they have won eight matches on the bounce and are unbeaten since the end of November. Celtic are the only team to beat them on home soil this season, so Hearts have a huge uphill battle here.

The visitors managed to break out of their poor run of form last weekend, with a 4-0 thrashing of relegation candidates Hamilton. This ended a run of three consecutive defeats and five games without a win, but the damage could already be done for them.

Hearts remain in 4th position in the Scottish Premiership, but they are just a point ahead of St Johnstone and have lagged to six points behind Rangers in 3rd. They will be low on confidence despite their win last weekend, especially since one of those defeats preceding it was a Scottish FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship leaders and cross-city rivals Hibernian.

Away from home Hearts have a wretched run of form to look back on. They have won just one of their last 11 trips away in all competitions and have lost six of their last eight on the road.  This isn’t the run of form you want to be in when coming up against one of the best home teams in the top flight.

Aberdeen know that a defeat on Saturday would open the door for Celtic to mathematically wrap up the Scottish Premiership title on Sunday, and they will want to hold that day off for as long as feasibly possible, despite them knowing that the title race is well over.

More to the point, they won’t want to give up any ground on the chasing Rangers, so I can’t see any complacency creeping in. Considering Hearts’ awful record on the road and Aberdeen’s winning streak at the Pittodrie, odds of 8/11 for an Aberdeen win look excellent value. I’m backing that alongside a 2-0 correct score predictions at 7/1.
