Aek Athens vs Fehervar FC Predictions

AEK Athens and Vidi meet again this Tuesday and it’s a wonderful chance for one of these clubs to make the UEFA Champions League group stage, having not made much impression in Europe’s premier competition in recent years. The Greeks will have passionate backing here and will fancy their chances of progressing.

They appear to have done the hard work already. Last week’s 1st Leg was a bad-tempered affair which ended with both teams down to ten men. AEK held the numerical advantage for longer though following Szabolcs Huszti’s early red card and they certainly made the most of it, netting twice. Danko Lazović grabbed a goal back for Vidi but 2-1 up, AEK will be expected to progress with home advantage this week.

You have to go back to the 2006-07 season for the last time AEK played in the Champions League group stage but this current crop of players has already set about breaking a few records. They won their first Greek title since way back in 1994 last season, only losing twice all term and although the new Greek league season is just one game old, they are already on top again thanks to a 2-0 win over PAS Giannina at the weekend.

Vidi have had the luxury of a week off as they try to figure out how they will respond to the disappointment of their 1st Leg defeat. They may argue that the sending off played a big role in their loss but on paper they are also the weaker side and it’s hard to give them much hope second time around in the Greek capital.

They’ve only actually won 1 of their last 5 matches in all competitions and haven’t made the most convincing of starts to their title defence in Hungary. Their European performances haven’t been that impressive either, despite their progress through the qualifying rounds. They’ve only actually won 2 of their 7 matches in the Champions League this term and both of those wins were at home so there’s not a great deal that AEK should fear here.

AEK came through a tough test against Celtic and up against what on paper is weaker opposition here, they should be able to finish the job with no major alarms. Going for AEK -1.0 Asian Handicap could therefore be worth considering. Read our Asian Handicap Guide for more on this market.

There does look to be value in backing Both Teams to Score at pretty long odds too. Vidi have to score at least twice to stand any chance here, so the visitors will need to be quite positive in their approach, which should make it a relatively open game and all of AEK’s three games so far this season in the Champions League have seen both teams score.
