AFC Wimbledon vs Bristol Rovers Predictions

AFC Wimbledon’s early season performances continue to underwhelm, and the Dons slipped to their 6th defeat in their first nine League One matches of the campaign against Coventry last weekend – a result that leaves them 3rd from bottom.

Again, it was Wimbledon’s distinct lack of quality in attack that hamstrung them the most. The Dons have now scored just five times in six outings at Kingsmeadow since the summer, failing to score in two of their most recent three in front of their own supporters.

Games at Wimbledon’s ground have been a bit of a chore for supporters since mid-August and under 2.5 goals were registered in 100% of their last four matches there in all competitions.

Unfortunately for those beleaguered fans, Saturday’s meeting with Bristol Rovers promises to be a similarly dreary affair.

Wimbledon’s League One goal per game average of 0.88 this term is only slightly eclipsed by their visitor’s average of 1.11 per contest so far, figures that suggest that neither team has the quality in attack to cut loose this weekend.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, under 2.5 goals were scored in 78% of Bristol Rovers’ League One fixtures to date in 2019/20, and we think that already high percentage will be enhanced even further after The Pirates trip to Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

In addition, it’s worth noting that recent meetings between Wimbledon and Rovers haven’t exactly been a thrill a minute. Just four goals were scored across the last three encounters between the teams, and Saturday’s latest clash promises to be just as low on action.

We recommend taking the under 2.5 total goals option for Saturday’s fixture, while our correct score prediction tips Bristol Rovers to win 1-0.

Undefeated in there matches, Rovers form has been on an upward trajectory after a disappointing few weeks between late August and early September. Wimbledon are in a real rut having lost six and drawn three in nine, and we expect Bristol Rovers to capitalise on their fragility.
