AIK vs Brommapojkarna Predictions

On paper this is a massive home banker with the side that is setting the pace at the top of the Allsvenskan taking on relegation-threatened opponents who have been simply dreadful on the road. Any kind of result would be a huge bonus for them here but it’s very hard to see them getting one.

They may take a little bit of encouragement from a below-par AIK showing in midweek as the Stockholm club were a given a real fright by Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League. Rikard Norling’s side were leading 1-0 from the 1st Leg in Ireland but ended up being taken to Extra Time at the Friends Arena with substitute Nicolas Stefanelli ultimately sending them through 2-1 on aggregate.

They did rest one or two players for that game though so they can at least bring some fresh legs in here and that could be key. While they can’t afford to sniff at a possible Europa League adventure, trying to clinch a first league title in nine years may be the priority and right now they look well equipped to do that.

Merely trying to stay in the league is all Brommapojkarna have on their minds. They lie in 14th place heading into this match-day, which would see them go into a relegation play-off if they finished there. Their current form suggests it could be worse than that though. They’ve played all of the other sides in the bottom four in recent weeks and lost all of those crunch relegation six-pointers, scoring only one goal.

At least the pressure will be off here to some extent with nobody expecting them to get a result but it’s virtually impossible to make any sort of case for them in this one. They are the only team in the Allsvenskan that is yet to pick up an away point this season and even away goals have been very hard to come by. They average just 0.5 goals per game on their travels and have failed to score in a huge 54% of their league fixtures this term.

That will need to improve if they are to stand much chance of avoiding the drop but it’s hard to see them troubling the league leaders. AIK have won 67% of their home league games to nil this season. They have the division’s best defensive record with only 0.71 goals per game conceded and up against the league’s weakest attack, they stand a great chance of adding to their clean sheet tally.

Overall backing AIK to Win to Nil looks like the value bet.
