Ajax Reserves vs FC Oss Predictions

A fantastic November for Oss ended on a rather sour note last Friday as Klaas Wels’ side were torn apart 0-5 at Frans Heesen Stadion by Roda JC. No one could have predicted such an emphatic victory for the Kerkrade outfit based on Oss’ recent exploits, but TOP now have to show their resilience as they make the trip to face Jong Ajax on match day 17. Can Oss bounce back and improve on their dismal head to head record against the hosts?

There were some real thumping’s dished out in Eerste Divisie on match day 16 but none more so than the one handed to Oss by Roda JC at Frans Heesen Stadion.

Oss went into last week’s contest on the back of four straight wins, including a 0-1 success against then co-leaders Go Ahead Eagles on match day 15, so the 0-5 triumph for Roda was a huge shock and one of the standout victories of the season to date.

A combination of that defeat and Oss’ atrocious record against Jong Ajax (W1, D2 and L7 from ten previous meetings) means they’ve been dismissed by the bookies for this week’s clash in Amsterdam, but there’s plenty of reason to believe that they’ve been harshly overlooked.

Of course, the above factors are a definite concern for punters, but Oss are still ultimately 4th in the table and eight points better off than 11th placed Jong heading into this week’s clash.

Oss have lost just one of their eight away league games this term, winning five, and have accounted for the likes of Twente and NEC on the road to back up that impressive 0-1 triumph at Go Ahead a fortnight ago.

Based on that form, there’s every reason to suggest they can get the better of Jong Ajax here, particularly if you take the view that last week’s result was just a one-off blow.

Jong will be feeling much happier about life though following their fine 2-5 success at Twente last week – another eye-opening result across a weekend packed full of shocks in Eerste Divisie.

18 year-old Jurgen Ekkelenkamp notched a superb double salvo in Enschede to send Michael Reiziger’s men towards what was just their second away success of the campaign, and a repeat performance from Jong this Friday would certainly make life difficult for the visitors.

But there is absolutely no guarantee that Jong will put their best foot forward again – they had lost four of their last five league games prior to their win at De Grolsch Veste and have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the Dutch second tier this term.

So despite a decent home record of five wins and two defeats from seven this season, Jong are there to be taken on at around the 4/7 mark and odds of approximately 9/2 available for Oss are an absolute gift if we can forgive them for last week’s horror show.

16 points from eight away matches is a fabulous return so far for Oss and Klaas Wels’ charges can improve that tally here with a 1-2 win.
