Ajax Reserves vs FC Utrecht Reserves Predictions

Jong Ajax are undoubtedly a far superior reserve outfit to Jong Utrecht as league positions over the past two seasons will testify, however they came unstuck twice against Robin Pronk’s side in 2018. Utrecht came out best in a 4-3 thriller when the teams last met in November, so Ajax will be gunning to put things right this Monday when they entertain Eerste Divisie’s bottom side at Sportpark De Toekomst.

It’s hard to envisage Utrecht pulling off a repeat of that performance here though, as they travel to Amsterdam on the back of 11 straight league defeats following last week’s 1-3 home reversal against FC Eindhoven.

Pronk’s charges have scraped just two points on the road this term from 14 outings, and on Monday they square off against a Jong Ajax side that have amassed 27 points from their 14 home games this season.

It goes without saying then that Utrecht’s chances of obtaining a result here are slim at best, but Jong Ajax are extremely short in the betting at around 1/7, based on the teams’ last two meetings and their own patchy recent form.

Michael Reiziger’s side were defeated 2-1 away to Oss on match day 29 and they go into this Monday’s clash with just one win gained from their last five fixtures – a run which has seen the defending champions fall to 12th in the standings.

Whilst their home form has generally been strong, Ajax were held to a 1-1 draw by 18th placed Jong AZ when they last appeared in Amsterdam at fortnight ago, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that they could slip up again. It’s certainly not a risk worth taking for punters at 1/7, even thrown into any multiple bets on Monday evening.

So the best cause of action here is to focus on goals, and the openness of November’s meeting is the first indicator that we should see an attacking game here.

As a result, there isn’t too much value to be had in these markets as the bookmakers have things about right, but we’re recommending a wager on over 3.5 goals if you are to get involved.

Such has been a feature of 42% of Jong Ajax’s matches this term and 52% of Jong Utrecht’s, whilst the visitors have conceded at a rate of just under 2.8 per game away from home.

Jong Ajax have bagged just over two goals per game on average from their fixtures in Amsterdam, so over 3.5 definitely looks probable at fair odds of around 4/6.

With Jong Ajax the obvious likely winners, we’re also tipping up 3-1 to the hosts in the correct score market.
