Ajax Reserves vs FC Volendam Predictions

Jong Ajax were flying en route to Waalwijk last week following four wins and a draw from their five previous matches, however the defending champions were soundly beaten 4-1 by an inspired RKC side. Can Michael Reiziger’s charges respond back on home soil this week against a Volendam side who have lost four from their last six outings in the league?

It was always going to be tough for Jong Ajax on match day 21 against a much improved RKC team who are rapidly hunting down a Play-off place, but few would’ve expected the Waalwijk outfit to knock over the defending champions quite so easily.

Jong had previously bettered promotion chasing Twente (2-5) and Sparta Rotterdam (2-0) in recent weeks, so the heavy defeat will definitely come as a real set-back for Reiziger’s young players, and it will be interesting to see how they react this Monday back at Sportpark De Toekomst, where they’ve been dominant for the majority of the campaign.

Jong have accrued 22 points from their ten home games (W7, D1, L2) and their consistency in Amsterdam has kept them aloft in the top half of the table. Jong are 8th heading into match day 22 and that’s despite losing seven times from 11 matches on the road.

One of those away disappointments came against Monday’s opponents Volendam in October, as goals from Deul, ten Den and Doodeman handed Palingboeren a 3-1 success at Kras Stadion.

That win came amidst an eight match unbeaten run for Volendam following the appointment of Hans De Koning at the beginning of October, but things haven’t been quite so rosy for them of late.

Having clawed their way up to the brink of the Play-off places, Volendam are now down to 14th after four defeats from six, the latest of those arriving at Kras Stadion last week as FC Eindhoven ran out comfortable 1-3 winners.

Volendam were triumphant when last on their travels a fortnight ago in beating Almere City 0-2, but that was just their second away win from ten outings this term and it’s difficult to envisage them causing Jong too many problems here, considering the hosts’ impressive record at Sportpark De Toekomst.

Nonetheless, the hosts are too short in the betting here at around the 1/2 mark as there’s enough doubt surrounding how they’ll answer last week’s reversal in Waalwijk.

Once thing we can be pretty certain of here is goals and that’s where we’re turning our attentions for a wager.

These sides have only failed to score six times this season from their combined 42 fixtures, and four of the last six games for both have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals hit the net.

That was also the case in the teams’ reverse fixture so we’re confident that both teams to score and over 2.5 goals can land again here. The hosts are favoured for the result, so we’re also going for a 3-1 correct score prediction alongside our main tip.
