Ajax Reserves vs PSV Reserves Predictions

Jong PSV were the dominant reserve side in Eerste Divisie last term when finishing 3^rd but it’s been a rocky start to the new campaign thus far for Peter Uneken’s team. After one draw and three defeats, they at least managed to take care of Jong AZ at home on Friday to narrowly register their first win of the season 3-2, but they’ll be hard pressed to follow up this Monday away to a Jong Ajax team who ran De Graafschap close on Matchday 6.

Jong Ajax could only manage a mid-table finish last season after landing the Eerste Divisie title in 2017/18 but they already look a more dangerous outfit under the stewardship of Mitchell van der Gaag.

Whilst they only collected a single point from their first two matches against Oss (2-1) and NEC (3-3). Ajax subsequently posted consecutive victories against Dordrecht (2-5) and Almere City (3-2) before giving promotion favourites De Graafschap a real game on Friday.

Van der Gaag’s side ultimately came away from De Vijverberg empty handed having lost 3-2, but it was a tremendous effort, considering the strength of the table toppers who are likely to lay waste to many sides this term.

With 14 goals netted already in five matches, Ajax should get plenty of joy on Monday evening against PSV who have lost both of their away games so far, conceding six goals. The visitors have conceded 11 in five matches overall, so we can expect lots of goalmouth action in this contest, with the hosts likely to dominate in that department.

Four of Ajax’s fixtures so far this season have produced over 3.5 goals, with the same applying to three of PSV’s outings. Additionally, neither side are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league. With Ajax looking the stronger team, we feel backing a home win here and over 3.5 goals to be scored is the way to go.

With Ajax scoring at a rate of almost three per game but also likely to concede, a 3-1 home victory is our prediction in the correct score market.
