Ajax Reserves vs Telstar Predictions

Reigning champions Jong Ajax have offered a pretty tame defence of their Eerste Divisie title seven games in. Michael Reiziger’s team sit 10th in the table with a mediocre ten points on the board, and they were atrocious in their home defeat to FC Eindhoven last week. Can Jong bounce back on match day eight when they take on Telstar at Sportpark De Toekomst?

After losing 2-1 away to leaders Go Ahead Eagles on match day six, Jong Ajax were widely expected to return to winning ways last week at home to strugglers FC Eindhoven, who arrived at Sportpark De Toekomst without a victory to their name this season.

But Jong turned in a woeful display, and were swatted away 0-3 by David Nascimento’s side in one of the shocks of the season to date.

The result leaves the defending champs six points off the pace in Eerste Divisie, and although it’s early days, it looks highly likely that Michael Reiziger’s men are going to relinquish their crown well before the end of the campaign.

Jong’s inconsistency makes them an unattractive betting proposition at present, and it’s also worth noting that the three teams they’ve beaten this term are currently placed 15th, 18th and 20th in the table.

It suggests the Amsterdam outfit have achieved relatively little thus far, which makes their status as heavy odds-on favourites for Friday’s match with Telstar look pretty farcical. It will come as no surprise therefore that we’re giving the hosts a wide berth here.

Telstar will be equally disappointed with their start to the season after finishing a fine 6th last term, and Mike Snoei’s men are currently 12th in the standings after three wins and four defeats from their seven outings.

The Ijmuiden outfit look vulnerable against the top sides following defeats to Twente (1-3)and Cambuur (2-0) in recent weeks, but that’s not a great concern here considering Jong Ajax don’t fit into that bracket at the moment.

Telstar will also go into Friday’s fixture in good spirits after a 1-0 success at home to FC Oss on match day, courtesy of a first half strike from Rodny Lopes Cabral.

Telstar don’t have a great recent record against Jong Ajax with just one win gained from their last six meetings, however they did draw both fixtures last term when the Ajax reserves were at the peak of their powers.

A home win is far from guaranteed here as the odds on offer suggest, and Telstar will feel the hosts are there to be got at after their collapse against FC Eindhoven last week.

The visitors are extremely tempting at a big price to claim all three points after their decent success over FC Oss, but we think the safer option is to side with Mike Snoei’s charges in the double chance market.

It will be really interesting to see which Jong Ajax turn up on match day eight, but we do know the visitors will give it 100% in Amsterdam and a 1-2 result is our correct score pick.
