Ajax vs Copenhagen Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Ajax will feel a little aggrieved by their defeat to Copenhagen last week in the first leg of this tie. They controlled the ball for large periods of the game and had an equal amount of attacking opportunities as their hosts, but despite this they ended up losing the game 2-1.

It isn’t over though. Copenhagen are notoriously good on home soil but Ajax managed to break their run of clean sheets and get a potentially crucial away goal. They followed this defeat up with a 3-0 win at home to FC Twente on Sunday as well, to leave them just four points adrift of Feyenoord at the top of the table. The Dutch giants have now won ten, drawn two, and lost just one of their last 13 games in all competitions.

At home they have won six matches on the bounce, scoring a huge 18 goals and conceding just two at the other end. They have only lost twice at home all season, and all but two of their last 18 matches in Amsterdam have ended in victory.

Copenhagen followed their midweek win up with a 2-0 win over Esbjerg on Sunday to leave them a comfortable 12 points clear of Brondby at the top of the Danish Superliga. They are now unbeaten in 20 competitive matches, not counting their mid-season winter friendlies.

A lot of this is based on their excellent home defensive record, but away from home they start to let goals in a bit more. They have conceded in five of their last nine on the road, and considering Ajax managed a goal in Denmark, the chances are Copenhagen won’t be able to keep a clean sheet on Thursday.

Teenage striker Kasper Dolberg is who Copenhagen have to watch out for here. The 19 year old has scored 16 goals in 33 appearances this season and a huge 14 of those goals have come in his 15 games at the Amsterdam Arena. He has notched five in his last five games there, so backing him to score at 11/10 looks the best bet for this clash. In the end I think it could be taken to extra time, so I’m going for a 2-1 correct score predictions at 15/2.
