      Albion vs St Mirren Predictions

St Mirren will travel to North Lanarkshire during the week where they’ll be hosted by a struggling Albion Rovers side. Can the Wee Rovers get back on track?

Albion Rovers suffered heavy defeat at the hands of Dunfermline Athletic on Tuesday, as the side managed by Kevin Harper was thrashed 6-0. Kyle Turner scored his first goal on the day 2 minutes in, with a further 4 goals coming before the end of the half. Kevin Nisbet opened and closed his tally within 25 minutes and also sealing his hat trick, with Aaron Comrie scoring too. Turner put the last nail in the coffin in the 53rd minute, ensuring that Albion Rovers received an absolute humiliation.

The score was a surprising one, as the North Lanarkshire side had managed to scrape a win in their last outing, which was a 1-0 win over East Kilbride. Prior to that, the club had gone through an atrocious pre-season, losing every single one of the 4 friendlies they played.

St Mirren’s shaky start to their competitive season continued over the weekend following their dull and goalless draw with East Kilbride, who are currently bottom of their group in the League Cup. Not only did the Buddies fail to take all 3 points, but they also failed to win the bonus point up for grabs with every draw, as Jim Goodwin’s side lost on penalties to the Kilby.

It’s yet another hiccup for the Paisley club and their narrow escape from relegation last season seemingly continues to haunt them with poor performances. After losing to Peterborough and drawing with Stenhousemuir in friendlies at the beginning of the month, St Mirren would go on to lose 3-2 to Dunfermline Athletic, despite being 3 goals down by half-time. Granted, Dunfermline seem to be in fine form this season, but the Buddies should be playing better and achieving better results against smaller teams in inferior divisions.

Things aren’t looking to good right now for the Paisley club, but they haven’t done as badly as they could. Both sides have only won once in the League Cup, although Albion Rovers have played a game less than their next opponents. However, we believe St Mirren could continue to struggle before the league campaign finally gets underway, which is why we’re backing this game to end as a draw, with a final score of 1-1.
