Almere City FC vs FC Eindhoven Predictions

A run of three consecutive league wins put Almere City back in contention for the Eerste Divisie Play-offs, but their mini revival was brought to a shuddering halt by NEC last week in a 5-0 battering at Goffertstadion. Schappenkoppen will be looking to find an immediate response this Friday evening, when they host an FC Eindhoven side who they beat 0-2 at Jan Louwers Stadion earlier this season.

Just two points separate Almere City and FC Eindhoven who are 11th and 14th respectively in the table, so there is plenty riding on this Friday’s fixture. A win for the visitors would see them leapfrog Schappenkoppen in the standings, whilst a victory for City could see them draw level on points with 9th placed Jong Ajax.

With Jong Ajax and Jong PSV both occupying positions in the top nine, 11th may well be good enough to secure qualification for the Play-offs come the end of the regular campaign, but both of these teams will want to kick on over the remaining 12 games to ensure their spot is booked.

City’s season has been a bit of a rollercoaster considering they were in the top five  for many weeks and then slumped to as low as 14th at the start of 2019, but recent victories against Roda JC (1-2), Jong AZ (2-0) and RKC (0-1) have bumped Michele Santoni’s men back up into the middle order.

Nonetheless, progress was abruptly ended with a 5-0 mauling at NEC last week, and that result is likely to have left City licking their wounds heading into this Friday’s clash with FC Eindhoven, who themselves are seeking to return to winning ways.

Blauw-witten recorded four victories on the bounce at the turn of the year, but they are now without a win in three following defeats to Jong PSV (1-2), Twente (1-0) and a 1-1 draw with Jong Ajax.

However, the visitors do seem the more stable of this pair, despite being worse off in the standings, and they were very unlucky not to come away from Enschede with a point on match day 26.

A stoppage time penalty from Aitor Cantalapiedra denied Eindhoven a draw which they richly deserved at De Grolsch Veste, and boss David Nascimento will be hoping that, that result spurs his team on here as they take on opposition lacking quality, in comparison to the league leaders.

City ran out 0-2 winners in August’s reverse fixture courtesy of goals from Nick Vossebelt and Andreas Calcan, but FC Eindhoven are a completely different proposition to the early weeks of the campaign when the lost five on the spin.

Granted, Yanmar Stadion has not been a happy hunting ground of late for Eindhoven who have suffered 5-1 and 4-0 losses here in the last two seasons, but we think they are the value pick for this fixture, considering they have won four of their last five on the road whilst City have won just one of their last five at home.

This should be a fairly close and intriguing tussle, but we’re siding with the visitors to edge it and overtake City in the table via a 1-2 scoreline.
