      Amiens vs Reims Predictions

      • Amiens have scored more than one goal in just one of their last seven games while Reims have only achieved that in one of their last eleven.
      • Reims have won just one of their last five away games despite playing three of the bottom five teams.
      • Amiens have picked up eleven of their seventeen points at home this season but are winless since November.

      Reims slow out the blocks

Reims ended 2019 in great style with a seven match winning streak making many of Ligue 1’s pundits take notice of their achievements considering that is is still just their second year back in the top flight. However, they must have enjoyed the festive period a bit too much as they have been stagnant and slow since the restart. David Guion’s men have played three games so far with two ending in defeat and the other being a narrow penalty win, the game finishing 0-0. They have conceded four goals in these matches including two to one of Ligue 1’s worst attacks.

Obviously they shouldn’t be at panic stations just yet but they are going through a sticky patch and will need to get back on track soon. Reims will be the away side for this game and this could hold them back as they have been considerably worse on the road with just one win in their last five outings. In this time they have played three of the league’s bottom five sides and won just once (1-1 v Metz; 0-2 v Nîmes), against basement club Toulouse (1-0). This will make good reading for 18th place Amiens.

Amiens in need of a boost

The hosts find themselves in an even worse place than Reims with just the one win since the start of November. They have picked up one of their last 21 possible league points and are in dire need of some motivation. The Unicorns put in a good display at the weekend as they opened the scoring against 6th placed Montpellier and really controlled many of the match’s better chances. However, as is usually the case with teams lacking confidence, they lost 2-1, conceding an 82nd minute Andy Delort strike to consign them to defeat once again.

The hosts have just been too poor at the back this season with them conceding the second most goals in Ligue 1. At the top end of the park they have netted 22 times which is three more than 4th placed Nantes but their mishaps in defence have really set them back. The Unicorns have conceded seven goals in their last three league games at home so need to rally if they want to take something from this match.

A drab affair at the Licorne?

As much as Amiens haven’t been vintage in front of their own fans, it is definitely where they play their best football as it’s where they’ve won eleven of their seventeen points this season. They have a stern test here against this Reims side though, the visitors may be in a bit of a rut but are still Ligue 1’s second best defence and sit three points off 5th for a reason.

The most recent clash between these sides finished as a draw and we’re backing it to end level again here. Amiens have five goals in their last three home matches so we’re expecting them to net here against a Reims side who haven’t seemed their sturdy self in recent weeks. However, we’re also backing the visitors to get on the scoresheet given Amiens’ awful defensive record. As a result we’re predicting this to finish 1-1 as Amiens have scored more than one goal in just one of their last seven games while Reims have done so in one of their last eleven.
