Angers progressed through to the next round of the Coupe de France on Thursday with a 2-1 win against Rennes while the evening before, Nantes were dumped out of the competition following a 4-2 defeat in their own backyard at the hands of Lens. Nantes remain in trouble near the bottom of the table and look set for a relegation battle this season. Angers are fighting for a top-half finish and a win this weekend could take them into the top six.

Angers have had the edge over their local-rivals in recent seasons, winning four of their last five encounters with Nantes. All of the duo’s last 14 meetings over the years have been closely fought, with no more than a two-goal margin separating the pair during that period. Both teams have scored in five of the duo’s last seven head-to-heads in all competitions, so there is a good chance we won’t see any clean sheets this weekend.

Neither side can claim to be in good form right now but with two wins, one draw and three defeats, it’s Angers that claim the title of form favourites. Nantes have lost four and drawn two of their last six matches and as one of France’s most successful sides, it is a shock to see Nantes struggling near the foot of the table. Both teams have scored in three of the host’s and four of the visitor’s last six outings, which points further towards the idea of there being no clean sheets on Sunday.
