Tough break for Everton

Everton got a huge boost at the weekend, claiming a 3-1 victory at Brentford. Their hopes of building on that look slim, however, with Wednesday’s cup tie taking them to Villa Park.

Everton lost 4-0 to Villa earlier this term, while the Villains seem to have gone from strength to strength. After a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, the hosts could be dark horses to go all the way in this competition.

Villa to prove too strong

The hosts are likely to rotate given their busy fixture list across the league, Europa League and the Carabao Cup. However, so far Unai Emery’s side have looked quite deep, with John Duran emerging as a great alternative to Ollie Watkins up top.

Emery can still call upon the likes of Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey to come into the side, so they should prove too strong for an Everton team who have few options outside their first 11.

Given how comfortably Villa won when they met earlier this season, it’s hard to see a weakened Everton side pulling off a shock in this trip. Back the hosts to book a place in the next round.
