Aston Villa vs Hull City Predictions

Aston Villa and Hull City are only separated by one point and two places in the Championship table, but the pair head into Saturday’s game at Villa Park in the midst of opposite runs of form. The hosts have won just one of their last six matches and will be aiming to end a four game winless streak in league and cup this weekend. The visitors might have been dumped out of the FA Cup at the hands of Millwall, but they are unbeaten in their last nine Championship games and have won all of their last six in the league.

Last weekend proved to be a real low point in the season of Aston Villa fans as their side were convincingly beaten 3-0 at the DW Stadium by Wigan Athletic. Roberts scored the only goal of the first half for relegation battling Wigan in the forty-first minute, and it wasn’t until eleven minutes from time that Jacobs scored the all important second goal for the hosts. Garner wrapped up the 3-0 win with an eighty-third minute spot kick, and Aston Villa could have no complaints about the result. The hosts had 53% of the overall possession, more corners, and three times as many shots as Villa during the ninety minutes.

Hull City were on the right end of a 3-0 scoreline last time out when they strolled passed Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. The hosts didn’t take the lead until a minute into first half stoppage time when one of the Championships best players this season, Bowen, was set up by Polish winger Grosicki. The second goal arrived just seven minutes into the second half when Bowen stepped up to score a penalty kick, and in the seventy-sixth minute his strike partner Campbell ended any faint hopes of a Wednesday comeback with Hull’s third goal.

When these two teams met for their reverse league fixture at the KCOM Stadium back in August, visiting Aston Villa ran out 3-1 winners. A seventh minute strike from Evandro saw Hull City take the lead, but it proved to be a false dawn for the hosts and the teams went in level at the break thanks to an equaliser from Elphick. In the second half two goals in the space of five minutes from El Mohamady and Hutton sent the visitors on their way to a very good win on the road.

With five wins and one defeat from their last six matches, Hull City head into Saturday’s game as the clear form favourites. Aston Villa have only managed one win, two draws, and three defeats from their last six matches. With sixteen goals in the league alone this season, Abraham has been one of the few stars in an otherwise dull season for the Birmingham based club, while Bowen leads the way for Hull City with thirteen Championship goals.

We’re confident that Hull City will take something from Saturday’s match and have backed the visitors with a double chance bet, and for the scoreline to end 1-0 to Nigel Adkins’ men. Hull are in great form right now with 2-0, 6-0, and 3-0 wins in their last three league games, while Villa have conceded six and scored no goals in their last two match in league and cup. We’ve back Hull to claim a narrow 1-0 win against Villa this weekend, but the double chance bet means you still get your winnings if the visitors only manage to draw.
