Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Liverpool have only kept one clean sheet in six Premier League away games this season and have conceded in each of their last four home and away, while Aston Villa’s two games under Unai Emery have seen seven goals in total, with both teams scoring in each.

Liverpool 2-1

Reason for tip

Liverpool have won four of their last six Premier League games and their last away day was a 2-1 triumph at Tottenham. They beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park in May and have won their last four head to heads.

Darwin Nunez To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Darwin Nunez had a disappointing World Cup but his Liverpool form looks much more positive. He scored a brace in his final Premier League appearance before heading to Qatar and has seven goals in his last ten appearances for the Reds.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Predictions

  • Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in six Premier League away games this season.
  • Aston Villa have seen seven goals in their two games under Unai Emery.
  • Darwin Nunez has scored seven goals in his last ten appearances for Liverpool.

Villa on the rise under Emery

Aston Villa enjoyed something of a resurgence under new manager Unai Emery in November but they may find it difficult to extend their short winning streak when they welcome Liverpool on Boxing Day.

After winning just three of their first 13 Premier League games, Emery’s arrival sparked a turnaround in form as the former Arsenal boss guided them to successive Premier League victories for the first time since April, one of which was a stunning 3-1 triumph over Manchester United, followed by a similarly impressive victory at seventh-place Brighton.

Liverpool find their feet

Liverpool enjoyed a revival of their own during this period, beating Spurs and Southampton to push themselves into the top six and bounce back from a two-match losing streak.

After a tough start to the campaign, Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won four of their last six top-flight games and have beaten two sides in the top four, including defending champions Manchester City.

That being said, their early-season defensive issues are still present. They have conceded in each of their last four Premier League matches and have kept just one clean sheet from their six league away days.

Nunez to fire Reds to victory

With Aston Villa scoring in four of their last five home league games and netting five in their two games under Emery, backing both teams to score looks a solid option alongside a repeat of Liverpool’s last away game – a 2-1 win over Spurs.

I’m also backing Darwin Nunez to get back to scoring form after a disappointing World Cup. The Uruguayan failed to find the net in Qatar but has scored seven goals in his last ten outings for Liverpool, only seven of which were starts.
