Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Each of Atalanta’s last five games have contained under 2.5 goals, and they may not be worth backing for a home win after going eight matches without victory in Bergamo. Torino, meanwhile, are a threat after winning back-to-back road games.

Atalanta 1-0

Reason for tip

Torino have only conceded more than one goal once in their last eight matches, a run which started after their last trip to Bergamo. Atalanta, however, are unbeaten in five head-to-head clashes with Il Toro.

Atalanta vs Torino Predictions

  • Atalanta’s last home win came on 10th March – they have failed to win in their last eight competitive matches in Bergamo, meaning punters may be wary of backing the hosts.
  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in each of Atalanta’s last five matches.
  • Torino have only conceded multiple goals in one of their last eight competitive games.

Repeat of April thriller unlikely

When Atalanta hosted Torino in late April, having seen their bid for European qualification fall apart through a disappointing run of form, viewers were treated to one of the games of the Serie A campaign as Gian Piero Gasperini’s men needed two late goals to salvage a 4-4 draw. While recent clashes between the sides have often produced goals – Atalanta claimed 7-0 and 4-2 wins over Il Toro in 2020 – the formbook suggests things may be different on Thursday.

Atalanta have seen five consecutive games contain under 2.5 goals, and their recent 1-1 draw with Milan suggested a newfound willingness to defend in numbers. Nine Serie A teams have created more expected goals (xG) than La Dea this season, and only five have managed fewer shots – a big change for a side which scored a combined 188 league goals in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Meanwhile, Atalanta are winless in eight on home soil, making a punt on the result markets a difficult sell.

Torino’s return of seven points from three Serie A matches puts them level with Atalanta and demonstrates their ability to trouble any side in Italy. Ivan Juric’s men have won back-to-back away games (although both were at newly promoted teams) and have retained last term’s defensive solidity – since their crazy draw on this ground in April, Il Toro have conceded more than one goal on just one occasion.

Tight affair expected in Bergamo

With both Atalanta and Torino boasting solid defensive records in recent months and with little value to be found in backing La Dea for a rare home victory, we’re tipping under 2.5 goals to be scored on Thursday.

However, Atalanta should have enough quality to snatch a hard-fought victory, particularly after going unbeaten through the teams’ last five meetings, making 1-0 a decent correct score prediction.
