Atletico Go vs Boa Predictions

Thursday’s Brazilian Serie B action sees Atletico GO playing host to rock bottom Boa. The home side will be looking to make it three wins in a row by seeing off their struggling visitors.

After an inconsistent start, Atletico GO have finally come to life in recent weeks, winning back to back games for the first time this season, courtesy of a 3-2 win at Sampaio Correa and a 2-1 home triumph over Brasil de Pelotas.

Dragão hold hopes of challenging for promotion after suffering relegation last season but have some ground to make up, currently 3 points outside the top 4 down in 7th. Cláudio Tencati’s troops are doing just fine in an attacking sense, currently the league’s top scorers but they’ve also conceded the most goals in Serie B so far this season and will want to start tightening things up at the back sooner rather than later.

Fortunately, this particular match looks a good opportunity to do exactly that, as a wretched Boa side come to town. Coruja have been in simply horrific form up until now, taking just 7 points from 13 outings and new boss Ney da Matta looks like having his work cut out as regards keeping the club in the second tier.

He at least got off to an unbeaten start at the weekend, overseeing a 1-1 draw at Guarani, but it’s wins that Boa really need, already 8 points adrift of safety. Nonetheless, having only won 1 of their last 15 outings overall, it’s hard to see exactly where they are going to come from and this trip to Atletico looks a massive ask for a team that has lost 8 of their last 11 away games.

Every factor points to a home win in this clash and as such, we’re more than happy to back Atletico Go to claim victory. Man for man they are a far stronger side than Boa, with their squad one of the league’s strongest on paper and far superior to Boa’s, one of the division’s weakest.

If Atletico are to harbour any real hopes of promotion they have to be beating opponents like Boa, particularly on home soil. Not only have Boa lost 8 of their last 11 away games, they’ve also failed to so much as score in any of them and whilst it’s hard to have too much faith in Atletico’s backline, we could well see them keep a rare clean sheet given Boa’s attacking struggles, with a 2-0 margin of victory on the cards.

Clean sheet or not, Atletico look like having too much firepower for the visitors to handle and are likely to win the match without too much trouble.
