Atletico GO vs Ponte Preta Predictions

Tuesday’s Brazilian Serie B sees promotion rivals Atletico GO and Ponte Preta doing battle. Both sides have ground to make up if they are to bounce back to Serie A at the first time of asking but it’s Atletico who look the most likely to win this clash.

Currently standing 7th, Atletico are not stationed where they want to end the campaign but just 2 points short of the top 4, all hope is not lost and a strong finish to the season will likely see them promoted. With visiting Ponte positioned just 3 points behind them, those that take to the field will do so highly motivated, given the importance of this clash.

Atletico were highly disappointing last time out, going down 4-1 away at Londrina. Said result was a continuation of their struggles on the road, where they’ve taken just 2 points from their last 5 games but that won’t be a concern coming into this match at the Estádio Antônio Accioly, where the hosts are very strong. All in all, Atletico are unbeaten in 6 home matches and with 5 of those games coming from victory, confidence is very high going into Tuesday’s fixture.

Somewhere confidence certainly isn’t high is in visiting ranks, with Ponte arriving in very poor form. Macaca were installed as one of the pre-season favorites for promotion but it’s been a nightmare campaign so far and having taken just 1 point from the last 3 matches, a change in the managerial dugout has been made, with Marcelo Chamusca set to debut in the dugout in this trip.

5 points shy of the top 4 and inheriting a group of players low on confidence, Chamusca looks to have a big job on his hands as regards salvaging Ponte’s season and a trip to Goiania hardly ranks as an easy start, particularly because the visitors have not been pulling up trees on the travels recently, winning just 1 of their last 4 trips, losing twice in the process.

Ultimately, we can only see one winner in this match and that’s the hosts. They’ve been looking very strong on home soil in recent weeks and should have too much for a Ponte side that is struggling home and away and has only scored once in the last 3 matches.

As such, backing Atletico GO to win looks a great way to play at generous odds. They beat Ponte 3-1 earlier on in the season and have won the last 4 games between the two overall and with Ponte’s new boss having had next to no time to have worked with his squad, that’s not a sequence that looks like ending. Atletico GO have won their last 3 home games by a 1-0 margin and it’s not hard to imagine a repeat of that scoreline, all things considered.
