Misfiring Miners set for more misery

Schalke have not won a Bundesliga game since January 17, with them failing to win any of their last 26 league matches across the past two seasons.

The Miners find themselves bottom of the Bundesliga with only three draws to show from their opening ten games and the misery may be extended at Augsburg, who are nine points better off in the table.

Schalke have scored just six goals in their first ten fixtures and defensively there is no side more generous with 31 goals conceded.

Schalke have lost four of their five away games – the only exception was a 2-2 draw at second-bottom Mainz – and they have shipped 21 goals at an average of 4.2 per game. The visitors also have a number of first-team injuries to contend with.

Augsburg won 3-0 at Schalke in May and we predict them to repeat the feat on home soil, where they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 earlier in the season.

The home side are without a clean sheet in seven, however, so even a misfiring Schalke may be able to get on the scoresheet.

Augsburg’s last home win came courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Mainz and we predict the same result here against more struggling opposition.
